The Essential Difference
Flora Oils are truly cold-pressed, unrefined and unmodified. Most seeds used in our oil pressing are grown organically by Canadian and U.S. farmers and are selected for their high quality and abundance of essential fatty acids. The quality of our oils is ensured by a third party certifying agency, Quality Assurance International (QAI). Unlike other commercially produced oils, Flora Oils are pressed in a light- and oxygen-free environment on highly sophisticated presses, where friction heat is kept well below 118˚F (50˚C) to produce a truly cold-pressed oil that preserves the fragile EFAs. They are then bottled in non-reactive dark brown glass bottles to prevent deterioration from light and are stamped for freshness. As an additional protective measure, we use a nitrogen flush to ensure oxidation cannot occur, and that top quality is maintained. Flora Oils retain their authentic color, delicate flavor and primary nutritional characteristics. They are perishable and should be stored in the refrigerator.

Oil pressed from flax is incredibly rich in both omega 3 and omega 6 essential fatty acids if it is freshly pressed and unrefined. These two essential fatty acids are important for immune system development, digestive support, healthy brain function, soft and smooth skin, circulatory health, and anti-aging benefits. The evolution of Flora's highly sophisticated oil pressing plant allows the production of fresh, cold-pressed flax oil, which is unrefined, non-deodorized and pressed from certified organically grown flax. During pressing of this oil, the temperature remains below 40˚C. This gives our oil a surprisingly delightful, fresh, nutty taste. Because of Flax Oil's superior nutritional make-up, we recommend it always be used unheated. Flora fresh pressed flax oil is perishable and should be kept refrigerated at all times. The pressing and expiry dates are stamped on each bottle to ensure freshness. The shelf life is six months refrigerated, or one year frozen.

Hulled sunflower seeds contain up to 60% oil which in average is 88% unsaturated. Natural sunflower seed oil, cold-pressed and unrefined has a light yellow to rich golden color depending on the seed and tastes pleasant and nutty. It is also rich in vitamin E. Slight cloudiness of unrefined sunflower seed oil is a sign of highest quality. Use Flora Sunflower Oil cold, in salad dressings and mayonnaise. It can also be used for light stir-frying, sauteing and baking.

Not all pumpkin seeds are suitable for oil pressing; the species predominantly used for Flora Pumpkin Seed Oil are cucurbita stilbo and cucurbita maxima, both of which are grown in pesticide free areas of Austria and Hungary. Pumpkin seeds produce a dark green yet excellent tasting oil. The unique Flora method of cold pressing retains the original rich flavor of pumpkin seeds and the dark color of the natural unrefined oil signifies a high content of chlorophyll. Both safflower and sunflower plants belong to the thistle family. Safflower seeds are slightly smaller than sunflower seeds and the oil, even when unrefined, is very light in flavor. Unrefined Safflower Oil is recommended in fat modified diets to reduce high serum cholesterol. Flora Safflower Oil is an excellent food oil most beneficial when used cold in salad dressings. It is a very rich source of Linoleic acid.

SESAME OIL (Certified Organic)

The tiny seeds of sesame have been known as a source of food oil for over 4,000 years in many Asian countries. Unfortunately, in industrialized counties, Sesame Oil is mostly produced in vast quantities in what is called a chemical extraction method, using hexane, bleaching, refining, and deodorizing, which results in a bland and tasteless oil. In contrast, Flora Sesame Oil is a truly cold-pressed oil, pressed at temperatures below 45˚C. Sesame seeds contain the natural preservatives known as sesamol and sasamolin. When refrigerated, Flora Sesame Oil will partially solidify, which shows that it has a high percentage of monounsaturated and saturated fatty acids. This makes Sesame Oil more stable with a longer shelf life.

Toasted Sesame Oil has a pleasant nutty flavor and is nutritionally preferred by many for sauteing, stir-frying and baking. When used for deep frying, it is advisable to heat the oil gradually to prevent foaming. To make Toasted Sesame Seed Oil, the washed seeds are sprouted for a short period. Then, they are rolled and lightly toasted. After this preparation, the toasted seeds are cold-pressed in the same manner as our other Flora oils.

Walnut Oil is a much sought after rarity. The walnut is extremely rich in oil (50-60%) which, when freshly pressed, is a delicacy in itself. Its light color and light flavor makes it an excellent salad oil. Walnut Oil lends an aristocratic touch of class to any dish. Since Walnut Oil contains one of the rare essential fatty acids (omega 3) in fair amounts (12%) it makes it nutritionally very valuable. |
