Salus Haus - In Partnership with Nature
The word 'Salus' means health, well-being, thriving and flourishing. The desire to promote health and well-being was one of the driving forces that inspired Dr. Otto Greither to found Salus Haus in 1916. Over the years, promoting health and well-being has been something worth-while and enjoyable to all of the people at Salus Haus. Today, over 80 years later, the spirit of Salus Haus lives on through his son, also named Otto Greither.
The Salus Philosophy
Salus Haus is more than a company that produces the highest quality herbal supplements. It is also a company with a spiritual and holistic message. "If we take a holistic view of the world, people and the environment must have the same rights" says Otto Greither. This means that as we take from the earth, we must give back to the earth. It is this thinking that has made Salus Haus an example for all companies to follow.
Since its foundation, the company's philosophy has been to produce high-quality natural products within a holistic system that considers the economic factors together with ecological and social criteria. The practice starts with the raw materials, which are produced primarily in the company's own environmentally and socially aware farms in Chile.
Salus Chile
Producing products of the highest standard starts with quality raw materials. In order to ensure the quality, potency, and purity of the materials used in their products, Salus decided to cultivate and grow its own medicinal plants in Chile, one of the most fertile, untouched areas on earth.
The first order of business for Salus was to test and re-test that the land was of the highest standard and that it contained no pollutants such as insecticides, pesticides, or artificial fertilizers. Once these conditions were met, the land was then deemed ready to be planted, maintained, and harvested. Only certified organic farming practices are used to maintain the Salus farms in Chile.

Out of respect for the land that produces the raw materials, Salus has tested and developed natural methods of pest and weed control, fertilization, and drying processes that do not harm the environment. The Salus farms in Chile have such a far reaching reputation that they are studied by agriculture students worldwide as 'model farms'.
The Eco-Audit
Respect for nature is one of the founding principals of Salus Haus. It is because of this respect for nature and the life it provides us all, that Salus Haus was the first health food company to receive certification from the European Community's 'Eco Audit Directive'. This directive is not easily attained and is only given to those companies that have made a decision to protect the environment, have implemented the necessary systems (as outlined by the European Community) and are willing to be independently audited at any time.
In the case of Salus, the Eco Audit systems are so comprehensive, it not only takes into account major items such as reduction of water consumption by 20%, but also smaller details such as dictating at what time of day, and under what weather condition lights are allowed to be on in the buildings. The Eco Audit is so encompassing in fact, that all employees must sign papers stating that they will abide by the standards as set out by the Eco Audit system as well as make every effort to apply the systems outside of work as well. At Salus, the company philosophy of 'in partnership with nature' is one that every employee believes in.

'There is only one quality at Salus' states Dr. Volker Kutscher, in charge of scientific affairs at Salus Haus. The products that are made at Salus Haus MUST have a positive impact on people's health and well-being. Salus Haus has a tradition of helping people stay healthy. For over 80 years, they have been doing this with the care and commitment that can only come from an inspiration and philosophy that has been passed on from generation to generation.
