The Therapeutic Power of Fresh Plant Juices

Flora is excited to announce the launch of the Salus Pure Natural Plant Juice line, formerly known as Schoenenberger Juices. These newly repackaged juices contain 100% natural, highly concentrated, active ingredients pressed from fresh cellular plants and filled directly into glass bottles, without the addition of alcohol, sugar or other preservatives.

Salus Pure Natural Plant Juices are unique – nothing has been taken away by way of evaporation, fermentation or drying. They are processed within 2-3 hours of harvesting thus retaining all the active ingredients that the plants contain. Therefore Salus Pure Natural Plant Juices are ideal to help maintain the natural processes of the body.

The Salus Pure Natural Plant Juice line provides you with a wide range of natural pure healing plant juices to deal with many of today's common ailments and conditions. From Artichoke to strengthen the liver and gallbladder; Hawthorn for heart and circulatory problems; to St. John's Wort for nervous disorders – Salus Pure Natural Plant Juices are the therapeutic juice of choice!

Get the most out of your herbs

We know that supplements are only effective if they are well absorbed by the body. Dried herbs (in tablets or capsules) tend to be poorly assimilated; liquids are preferred because the active constituents are already in solution and pass quickly into the bloodstream where they can be utilized.

But which liquid to choose?

There are three general forms of liquid extraction methods: infusions (flowers and leaves) or decoctions (bark, roots and berries) are what many people refer to as "herbal teas"; tinctures are liquid extracts of either dried or fresh herb in a water/alcohol or water/glycerin base; and herbal juices are just that, the juices expressed from fresh plants.

Infusions and decoctions are relatively weak extracts of herbs and are therefore best taken as a tonic over an extended period of time. Only water-soluble organic compounds can be extracted using this "tea" method, so it is not suitable for all plants or even for all parts of a given plant. Tinctures are popular because they are more potent than teas, are well absorbed and have a long shelf life due to the alcohol content, which prevents microbial growth. Tinctures do extract more of the constituents of the plant than do infusions or decoctions, however the alcohol content is a deterrent for many people, especially those with compromised liver, kidneys or gastrointestinal tract (alcohol metabolism can tax the organ systems); people suffering from or recovering from alcohol abuse; or those with sensitivity to alcohol.

Plant juices are expressed from organically grown herbs within 2-3 hours of harvesting. This produces the ideal liquid herbal preparation because the key therapeutic constituents remain bathed in the cellular fluids of the plant. Essentially, the juice is recognized by the body as food, which allows for maximum absorption and utilization. This is because the nutrients in plants are attached to glycosides, organic compounds that aid in the absorption process. Just like juicing any other kind of food, only the fibre is taken away; this allows for ingestion of a therapeutic amount of the plant (it takes 2 kg of fresh plants to yield 2-4 cups of juice). The juice floods the body with medicinal compounds plus vital minerals and vitamins that are naturally occurring, as Mother Nature intended. Some of the constituents in Salus Pure Natural Plant Juices, which are not necessarily present in other forms of herbal remedies, are: volatile oils, bitters, trace elements, mucilages, tannins, flavonoids and saponins.

Note: Not intended as medical advice.

Once a plant has been dried it is impossible to restore the original harmonious balance. The healthy concentration that nature has created exists in its pure form only in the fresh plant.

Walther Schoenenberger,
originator of Salus fresh plant juices

It’s a simple fact.
Our bodies expect to be fed a diet rich in a range of naturally occurring nutrients. While some can be obtained from fresh fruits and vegetables, many more are found in herbal and medicinal plants that are no longer a natural part of our diet. When we deprive ourselves of vital nutrients we often become ill.
So what’s a body to do?

1924

In 1924, Swiss pharmacist,Walther Schoenenberger, discovered that the juice of plants pressed on the day of harvest, and immediately pasteurized and bottled, retain their full therapeutic benefits.
The rest was history.

As demand for his fresh juices quickly spread across Europe, Shoenenberger began researching the juices from a number of traditional healing and dietary plants until he could establish a link between efficacy and common health issues such as indigestion, respiratory problems and constipation.

Schoenenberger took steps to ensure the plants that went into his products were cultivated and harvested with the utmost care and free of pesticides and heavy metals; a practice still scrupulously adhered to today.

It takes hundreds of St. John’s Wort flowers to fill a bottle of Salus Pure Natural St. John’s Wort juice, and our attention to harvesting early morning at optimum ripeness, and specialized pressing and bottling within hours, means the whole goodness of the fresh plant makes it to you: phytonutrients, minerals, vitamins, enzymes, saponins, tannins, trace elements, bitters, mucilage, and etheric oils.

Mother Nature knew what she was doing. Our motto is to add nothing, remove only the hard-to-digest fibres and preserve the goodness. Naturally.

These plant juices provide a high bioavailability of nutrients and are absorbed quickly!

Artichoke

Artichoke has been traditionally used as a medicine to treat toxic and infectious kidney disorders, liver stagnation, as well as rheumatic conditions.

In the 1930’s, clinical studies confirmed artichoke’s value in lowering cholesterol levels. More recently, clinical studies have shown a significant reduction (approximately 20%) in total cholesterol and average body weight (average loss = 5 Kg) in those individuals treated with an artichoke extract.

Actions

• Liver cell regenerator and protectant (liver and gallbladder disease or inflammation, prescription drug use)

• Reduction of cholesterol and triglycerides

• Reverses sluggish digestion and chronic constipation

Gout / Rheumatic conditions

Birch

Traditionally used as a treatment for bladder and kidney complaints. Fresh birch leaf juice is formally recognized for its ability to hasten the removal of waste products such as uric acid through the urine - making it beneficial for kidney and bladder stones, rheumatic conditions and gout. Unlike many other herbs used for this function (i.e. juniper), birch juice is effective without irritating the kidneys and can be safely used to reduce fluid retention and swelling during detoxification.

Actions

• Increases the flow of urine, thereby decreasing fluid retention in the body

• Functions as a “blood cleanser” to remove and eliminate unwanted waste products from tissues in the body

Availabity: 200 ml

Dosage: The recommended adult dosage of Salus birch juice is 20ml (4 teaspoons) with plenty of liquid twice a day.

Warning: While using birch juice, if a fever or blood in the urine occurs, treatment should be discontinued. Similarly, with acute rheumatic complaints, if reddening, swelling or overheating of the joints occurs, the administration of birch should be discontinued. Due to a lack scientific evidence, birch should not be used for children under the age of 12, pregnant women or breastfeeding mothers. Birch juice should not be used in irrigation therapy when fluid retention is caused by impaired kidney or heart function.

Black Radish

Black radish is traditionally used as a digestive stimulant. Today black radish is well-known for its balancing effect on the digestive tract and for improving the absorption of food into the body. Not only does it prevent congestion of bile from the liver, but black radish also helps to prevent inflammation of the gallbladder and the formation of gallstones. Due to its antimicrobial properties, black radish may also be used for yeast infections.

Actions

• Stimulates digestive juices

• Improves frequency of bowel movements

• Destroys yeast and bacteria in the digestive tract

Availabity: 200 ml

Dosage: The recommended adult dosage of Salus black radish juice is 20ml (4 teaspoons) undiluted or with a little liquid 2-3 times per day.

Elevated blood pressure

Celery

Celery is traditionally used to stimulate digestion. Celery is effective in combination with other herbs in treating high blood pressure and fluid retention through the elimination of excess fluids from the body. • Lowers elevated blood pressure

• Decreases fluid retention

• Improves digestion
