What is Bee Pollen?
Pollen, which has been called nature's perfect food, is the male seed of flowers, required for the fertilization of the plant, that young bees collect and shape into granules. It is known to contain 16 vitamins, including B-complex and vitamins A, C, D, and E. It contains 16 minerals, 21 enzymes and coenzymes and all of the 18 amino acids. It contains the essence of every plant from which bees collect pollen, in combination with digestive enzymes from the bees. It contains up to 40% protein, 55% carbohydrates and 2% fatty acids and has the potential to contribute as a major food source or humans. According to researchers at The Institute of Apiculture, Taranov, Russia, "Honeybee pollen is the richest source of vitamins found in nature in a single food." One of the most interesting facts about bee pollen is that it cannot be synthesized in a laboratory. When researchers feed bees manmade pollen, the bees die even though all the known nutrients are present in the lab synthesized food.
What is "Unlocked" Bee Pollen?
The vital contents of each pollen grain have been freed by a unique process of "unlocking", which splits the hard outer coating of the granule, ensuring you maximum absorption of all of the nutrients. Be sure to take a supplement that has been 'unlocked' so that you will absorb the maximum of nutrients possible that are available in bee pollen.
Benefits:
For Immune Support
Bee Pollen is rapidly absorbed into, and builds the immune system. It is thought to have the ability to correct body chemistry and eliminate unhealthy conditions. A report from the Agronomic Institute, Faculty of Zootechnics. Romania, showed the immune strengthening effects of bee pollen. Dr. Voiculescu and Dr. Andrei state that with the use of bee pollen, "an increase has been reported in the level of blood lymphocytes, gamma globulins and proteins. The most significant increase occurred in lymphocytes." Lymphocytes are responsible for ridding the body of infected or diseased cells, mutant and cancerous cells, viruses, metabolic wastes etc.
Anti-oxidant PropertiesIts combination of elements makes bee pollen an excellent source of anti-oxidants. Research studies and clinical tests have demonstrated that bee pollen has an immunizing effect, enhances vitality, and can counteract the effects of radiation and chemical toxins.
AllergiesMany people with allergies have found relief by ingesting bee pollen. Providing it is taken at least 6 weeks before allergy season begins and is continued throughout the season, it reduces the production of histamine, which can cause allergic responses such as hay fever. It works by desensitization, which is based on the premise that the administering of the allergen will cause the body to produce antibodies that will cancel out the effects of the offending substance the next time the body is exposed. It can strengthen the respiratory system and provide protein that can help the body build a natural defense shield against allergic responses. Leo Conway MD reports that, "all of my patients who had taken the antigen [pollen] …remained free from all allergy symptoms, no matter where they lived and regardless of diet."
Effects on Tumors An article from The United States Dept. of Agriculture revealed that, "In the non-supplemented mice, mammary tumors appeared as expected at an average of 31.3 weeks. Tumor incidence was 100%. In the mice supplemented with bee pollen, the average was 41.1 weeks, a delay of 9.8 weeks being obtained. Seven mice were still tumor-free at 56 to 62 weeks when the tests were terminated." Note: These mice were especially bred to die from cancerous tumors
Anti-bacterial Properties
Researchers have demonstrated that there is a substance in bee pollen that inhibits the development of numerous harmful bacteria. Experiments have shown that bee pollen contains an antibiotic factor effective against salmonella and other strains of bacteria.
Brain FoodThose who do taxing mental work also can experience the benefits from this natural energy food. Bee pollen can relieve brain fatigue and improve alertness. This can increase the capacity for intense concentration and enable longer periods of work without becoming tired. Stress can use up vitamins quickly and bee pollen can relieve stress and anxiety by replacing essential nutrient reserves in the body.
Weight ControlWeight loss may also occur as lecithin, (15% of the weight in volume of bee pollen), increases the speed calories are burned, stabilizes poor metabolism and dissolves and flushes fat from the body. It aids in the digestive process and the assimilation of nutrients. By boosting the value of each nutrient present in the food you eat, bee pollen also eliminates cravings.
Effects on CholesterolIt has been reported that bee pollen in the diet acts to normalize cholesterol and triglyceride levels in the blood. Upon the regular ingestion of bee pollen, a reduction of cholesterol and triglycerides was observed. HDL increased, while LDL decreased. A normalization of blood serum cholesterol levels was also seen.
Blood Pressure
Bee Pollen has an effect on blood pressure and sexual function. People who suffer from low blood pressure can be subject to deficiencies in the sex glands. Pollen increases blood pressure especially when taken with kelp and may increase hormone levels and sexual strength. Bee Pollen may also relieve anemia, cerebral hemorrhage, colitis and constipation.
Athletic PerformanceAthletes often use bee pollen to help increase their strength, endurance, energy and speed. The British Sports Council recorded increases in strength as high as 40 –50% in those taking bee pollen regularly. Bee Pollen aids the body in recovering from exercise, returning heart rate to normal, improving endurance for repeat exertion, and quickening mental and physical reactions.
Anti-AgingDr Nicolai Vasilievich Tsitsin, the USSR's chief biologist (and botanist) and an acknowledged expert on geriatrics studied numerous small villages in the Causcaus Mountains, where he found more than 200 inhabitants over 125 years of age. He discovered that they were all beekeepers and while they sold the pure, clear honey from the combs of their beehives, they kept for themselves and regularly ate, the bee pollen-rich residue that accumulated on the bottoms of their hives. He concluded his report by stating that, "taken regularly and in sufficient amounts, bee pollen will prolong the life span of man for many years."
Suggested Use:
If you are a beginner, introduce bee pollen into your diet slowly, and work up to 3 to 5 tablets three times daily with meals. Store in a cool, dry place.
